The long-awaited end of the Movement Control Order (MCO) is upon us. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced on Saturday that the country will enter a recovery phase from 10th June 2020 onwards. This is what will happen once Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) is in effect.
Interstate travel is now allowed
In the pass 83 days, all interstate travel was banned in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus across the state border. Travellers wishing to cross country were required to register for a permit or were turned back by the police at the borders.
Now all bans have been lifted, everybody is free to travel interstate without the need for a special permit.
Route to Singapore open for workers
The country border between Johor and Singapore is now open to allow Malaysians who work in Singapore to return to work.
Though Singapore is still observing Circuit Breaker (their version of MCO) the industry sector is already back to full operations. Hence the government’s decision to allow workers working in Singapore to return to work.
No more roadblocks
During the lockdown period, roadblocks along busy roads and highways became a norm as PDRM worked around the clock to ensure the citizens remain at home. PDRM has already announced that they will be dissolving all roadblocks starting Wednesday.
Increased surveillance duty
Although PDRM will be dissolving all roadblocks that were set up during MCO, IGP Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said that they will be laying out new tasks like more traffic surveillance teams.
This decision is made in anticipation of the traffic that will arise from the “balik kampung” crowd.
Motorsports activities allowed to resume
RMCO will allow most sports activities including badminton, athletics and gym activities, to resume. Two or four-wheel motorsports fall under the category of safe sports activities, hence they are allowed to resume for business as well.
What to expect
Now that life is almost back to normal, expect the roads to be more congested than what you are now used to under Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
Plus Highways expect interstate traffic to increase by at least 15 percent starting from 10th June 2020 as the people in the city make their postponed balik kampung trips.
As it is, Plus reported heavy traffic congestion around the Penang Bridge. Though the congestion is reportedly due to the drivers having not enough balance in their Touch n’ Go cards, Plus expects even higher numbers when RCMO commences.
